Heasley

1. B. I think Heasley did a great job at defining the different types of men, whether they are straight sissy boys, social-justice straight queers, elective straight queers, committed straight queers and males living in the shadow of masculinity. I know a guy in every category down to every last detail. It is weird that you never really think about it, and once someone else puts it into words, you can pick out many of your friends that fit into that one category.

Hennen

1. A. A new concept for me was the term "bear." I have never heard this term before when reffering to men and their physical appearance. I always just believed them to be macho or very athletic, but never giving them the term bear. It is weird that there are many groups that are strictly just for bears and their whole being is involved with the term bear.

Bergling

1. B. I think Bergling makes a great point on pg 32 when states, "I dont think anyone should ever have to apologize or justify those qualities he finds enticing in someone else..." I think that should be that way with everyone as well. We are all attracted to something and we should not have to give reason as to why. We need to make ourselves happy and if the certain people that we are attracted to do that then there should be nothing wrong.

Bergling

2. B. When Bergling discusses effeminate characteristics, the whole time I was reading it I could not stop thinking about my friend Nick. He has many of these characteristics, and people always ask me if he is gay and I simply say no. He is very straight but since he doesnt fit into that masculine role he is questioned for it all the time.

Thompson

1.B. I think Thompson does a great job at defining what societies see and feel when they hear the word masculine. We have done a great deal to construct this form of masculinity that needs to be shatterted and allow men and women to be able to openly express who they are despite what their gender is.

Katz Chapter 13

1. B. When Katz states that, "I am convinced that millions of men in our society are deeply concerned about the abuse, harrassment and violence we see- and fear- in the lives of our daughters, mothers, sisters and lovers" I see that in many of the guys that I know. When it comes to their little sister or their best friend that they truly care about they are very protective and they don't want to see any harm done to them.

hooks Chapter 7

1.B. I think hooks provide an excellent example for how to equalize men and women. Men need to see women as equals and it is really unfair that they do not see us as equals and they have to be dominant towards women. We do need to find a different way for boy to grow up with a different model. Society would be so different if we were able to find a way that would work.

hooks Chapter 11

1. B. I think hooks makes an amazing statement wen she says, "Men are on the path to love when they choose to become emotionally aware..." I think that is very true because they are able to open up an emotional side that society does not really allow them to express freely without being feminine. If all men could become more aware of their emotions it will be a really great step for society where we do not ciritisize men for showing their emotions.
