Katz Chapter 3
1. B. When Katz begins the chapter with a personal story of the time he went to the movies with a girlfriend of his, and she walked out because it brought back memories from her rape I can completely relate. When I got in my car accident in July, there have been many things that have sparked my emotions and brought back many of the memories that I wish to forget. We cannot control many of the things around us that spark these memories, we never know when they are going to happen again but all we can hope is that we are surrounded by people who will be there to help us through it.
Katz Chapter 2
1. A. When Katz discusses stats regarding men’s violence, I was surprised that “the average age at which a child is first abused sexually is ten years old,” (Pg 21). It is a shame that our society has allowed this kind of behavior to happen to so many children at such a young age or even at any age. And that is just the average age that also includes many children who are often sexually abused at a younger age. Their innocence is taken away from them way to early.
Katz Chapter 5
1. B. The term “boys will be boys” is a term that I have often heard. It just gives their actions an excuse which is not correct. Everyone should be accountable for their actions no matter if they are male or female. It is just like saying for woman, oh the reason she was acting that way was because she was on her period, or she was PMS-ing. We should all be able to control our actions and not be excused by certain circumstances.
Katz Chapter 9
1. B. When Katz discusses the charges brought upon NBA athlete Kobe Bryant, I think that it was a great example to discuss. It shows that no matter who you are, if you have done something illegal in the courts eyes, that there will be consequences. Although not all celebrities are held accountable I think all of them should be and when they are sentenced to a certain amount of time in jail I believe that they should be there for the majority of it and not be released early because they are celebrities. No celebrity should be able to buy their way out of anything. They are people too and if the rest of society is being held accountable for their actions, then celebrities should be too.
Katz Chapter 2
2. A. Back to chapter 3, regarding my car accident I can really relate to his girlfriend from the story. When I watch television shows sometimes, and there is a car accident that is very similar to the way that mine occurred I get a little uneasy, when I’m driving and I see a car accident on the side of the road I can’t help but get goose bumps, or when I hear sirens I get scared worrying about what is going on. It is something that we cannot change, but overtime it may get better and that is all that we can hope for.
